Did you ever try to jump off a merry-go-round while it’s traveling at full speed? Silly question, but if you ever did, you’d probably break an ankle. So you have to wait for it to stop before you dare get off.
There are millions of people in this country stuck on what I call the “medical merry-go-round”. Only, once this ride starts it doesn’t usually stop. It is characterized by treating conditions without looking for the source of the problem. This leads to taking multiple medications and turning your body into a pool of dangerous chemicals. So if you find yourself caught riding on this merry-go-round, consider “jumping”. You just might be saving your own life.
Your first ride usually begins when your doctor suggests, for example, that you start taking a medication for something such as high cholesterol. You fill the prescription as told and begin following doctor’s orders swallowing the pills each and every day. However, after two months you begin to notice that you’re getting severe leg cramps which keep you up at night. (A common side-effect of cholesterol lowering statins)
So another trip to the M.D. is in order. This time you leave with a little piece of paper that gives a pharmacist the right to give you some Lyrica to calm your legs and some Lunesta to help you sleep. Unfortunately, a week into taking these two drugs you get a weird rash and trek on down to Walgreens for an antihistamine. The antihistamine then gives you stomach problems and before you know it, you’re popping Zantac before each meal. Your medical merry-go-round has spun out of control. And it’s at this point where you have to make the critical choice of staying on or jumping off to save yourself.
Did you know that the average 65 year old person in the U.S is on seven different prescription drugs at once? Can you imagine allowing seven different medications to dissolve in a glass of water and then drinking it? Talk about weird science. People are turning their bodies into chemical factories. It’s a shame. And to top it off, adverse reactions to prescription drugs is now the third leading cause of death in the U.S.
As far as I’m concerned, the best medicine is prevention. And keeping your body functioning at its best is the ONLY true way of staying well. Drugs just suppress symptoms for a short time while you get sicker and sicker. Now of course if you’re presently dealing with a life threatening emergency, medication might be your only recourse. But for most people who are just trying to stay well, there are better ways.
There are really only three reasons that prevent your body from working the way it was designed. They are, overwhelming stress, not enough nutrition and trauma.
Stress affects your body in a multitude of ways. One of them is that it adversely affects the functioning of your adrenal glands. Small glands resting on each kidney, they are responsible for producing hormones that react to stress such as adrenaline and cortisol. Too much, or not enough of these hormones causes all types of body malfunctions such as fatigue, weight gain, digestion issues, and many more.
The second way your body malfunctions is due to lack of proper nutrition. These days, with the advent of GMO (genetically modified organism) foods, most humans are having problems digesting their food which can lead to a lack of cellular nutrition. Also, most people eat a diet high in processed foods, grains, and without the necessary “good” fat content. This will almost assuredly lead to chronic inflammation which damages tissues and is a main cause of many disease processes.
Furthermore, trauma, (whether it be small everyday stresses like poor posture and too much sitting or larger traumas like falls and accidents), causes a disruption in the normal balance and alignment of the spine. These bodily insults will lead to spinal nerve stress and since nerves control the function of every cell, tissue and organ of the body, this can cause serious threats to your health.
Therefore, I urge you to take the steps now to be healthy and avoid becoming a lab test tube. Except for an unfortunate few with genetic abnormalities, God gave you everything you need to be healthy. You just have to stop interfering with your body’s innate healing abilities by filling it with processed foods, stressing it to the max and hanging on to toxic emotions. The body needs no help, just no interference.
You also need to move. Motion is life. So get on a regular exercise regimen and keep tuned up with chiropractic. Also, do your best to become a student of the wonderful benefits of natural living. This might be the best health insurance available. And if you are currently riding on the medical merry-go-round, JUMP!!! Then find a naturally oriented doctor like myself to patch you up and get you back in the game. Be well.
